WD19DC monitor issues after latest firmware update

I've had the WD19DC Dock (without S) for a couple of weeks now, but since the latest firmware update (about a week-ish ago?) it's been a horrible experience.

I have 2 1080p60hz monitors connected via the dock to my Dell Precision 7540 (the dock is connected via the dual USB-C connection), and almost always 1 of them will not turn on until I reconnect it. Even when they are on they can suddenly stop working and go black again, or briefly blink black and return.

My OS is Ubuntu 21.10 and sometimes I can also fix it by running xrandr and setting the monitor mode to 1080p (even though it already is). About 70% of the time the screen will then turn on again.

I don't remember what the exact firmware version was, but I do remember the changelog saying something about fixing monitor detection issues. Whatever was changed, it broke things for me.

Log files unfortunately didn't reveal much (if anything), so anything I can do to provide more diagnostic data I will. I'll just need to know how.

I've already confirmed the BIOS settings to be correct as per the manual of the dock. The dock worked flawlessly for weeks, right up until that firmware update, after that all the issues began.

I ended up fixing it myself by disabling "Enable switchable graphics" in the BIOS.

The laptop now only uses the external GPU. Any errors in the syslog about nvidia-drm have stopped too.

Additionally, where before this change the laptop fans would blow like a jet engine whenever you'd do anything that required (even for a brief moment) more CPU power, this now seems to happen a lot less often. I reason this is because the fan curve is BIOS controlled (both in windows and linux I was unable to ever override this), and because the integrated GPU is now not in use, it draws less power and thus will hit certain thresholds on the fan curve less quickly. It'd be a lot better if the fan curve could be OS controlled still, but that's something different.

Hope this might help others.
