Wattage question on 5750 with Dell USB C Hub Monitor
Good Afternoon Everyone,
I have a question regarding charging wattage on 5750 which is 130w. I feel like I know the answer to this already but part of me thinks it could work. I am looking to upgrade my monitor with a Dell U3821DW USB C Hub monitor. This monitor provides 90 watts of charging power through USB C. Obviously numbers off the bat would suggest no, this would not work. My argument is, could this work if I am only keeping my laptop lid closed and plugged in at all times? I have a docking station that I would like to eliminate all together. I do not mind a slow trickle charge. Appreciate any advice.

Just updating this topic with a resolution. So the U3821DW monitor powered my laptop through thunderbolt just fine with no issues. After many support emails back and forth with Dell, it was determined the monitors USB C was faulty that did not allow my PC to boot up after restart. Switching it to HDMI for example fixed the problem. I returned the monitor. Just to add a little clarity, I tried a completely different HUB monitor and never had a restart issue with USB C. Just the one Dell I bought.

Dell does not have a breakdown of wattage used by the Precision 5750 when lid is closed versus opened. All we know is once the U3821DW 90 watt marked is met, the charge will then go to slow and you should receive a message stating so.

I went ahead and purchased the monitor and the set up is working. So far no battery drain issues. I did get the BIOS notification about power delivery. The only problem I'm having is I cannot boot my pc with it docked to the monitor. It just stay black. Any idea why it won't restart on it's own when whenever it is plugged in to USB C to the monitor?
