Update via Dell Comand update removes monitor resolution choices for DVI monitor.

Dell command update updated the intel UHD graphics driver (to Intel-UHD-Iris-Xe-Graphics-Driver_VH228_WIN64_31.0.101.4644_A14 ) among other things (processor power management, mem card reader) on a Dell Precision 7670 laptop and took away the full resolution setting for an older Dell monitor (Dell 2407WFP). The 1920x1200 resolution was working through DVI and a dell danarbc084a adapter to connect by display port to a WD19S docking station. After an update while not connected to the docking station and monitors the 1920x1200 and 1920x1080 no longer exist as options in windows for the 2407WFP.

The update occurred when connected to my work from home set up and the problem was discovered when connecting to the office set up where one of the two monitors is the Dell 2407WFP.

Rolling back the driver did not restore anything. Reinstalling the driver with the clean install option to the older version did nothing. I did everything short of clearing the display cache in the registry. I updated the nvidia graphics card drivers and tried various settings throughout windows and nvidia software to no effect. I connected a different monitor the same way (through the DVI apater) and even more resolution settings on it did not show up. That monitor (Dell U2410) works fine via display port (it has both).

Then I went about troubleshooting the adapter and cable. I connected the Dell 2407WFP monitor with the same cable and adapter to an older laptop that had a display port. No issues at all, it worked perfectly as it had with the 7670 via docking station prior to the update.

This means the problem is the update to the graphics driver or some other update. Since a monitor unknown to the computer was connected and had the same issue but worse, I doubt clearing the cache would have any effect other than to clear my preferences, icon location and so on.

I ended up replacing the monitor with a spare that has a direct display port connection (the one I used for diagnosis of the problem) and restored the UHD driver to the updated version. I’ll probably leave things this way as the U2410 is a better monitor, but decided to make this post in case someone else runs into the problem or there’s a desire to fix whatever the update broke.
