Thermal Pad Thickness for Dell Precision 5560 (Xeon + RTX A2000)

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to repaste and replace the thermal pads on my Dell Precision 5560 laptop and would really appreciate input from anyone who has worked on this system.

My configuration is:

  • CPU: Intel Xeon W-11855M

  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX A2000 4GB

  • Shared heatsink for CPU and GPU

  • Laptop is running hot under load, so I’m looking to upgrade both paste and pads (possibly to PTM7950 and high-performance thermal pads).

Does anyone know the original thermal pad thicknesses used by Dell for the following components?

  1. GPU VRAM chips

  2. CPU and GPU VRMs (MOSFETs and chokes)

  3. Any other components that were padded (e.g., inductors, SSD?)

Also, if you’ve done this repad before, did you stick with the OEM sizes or make adjustments?

I’d really appreciate any measurements or teardown photos if you have them. I want to avoid using pads that are too thick or too thin and risk poor contact.

Thanks in advance!
