SupportAssist hardware error
The latest hardware scan on my 7540 running Win 11 Pro shows the message, "Hardware Scan Result (Manual) - Default scan - Error - December 10, 2024 3:42:24 PM ". How can I find which component caused the failure? Thanks.

Run a pre-boot diagnostics scan. I've found that far more accurate than the Support Assist scans that often give you multiple errors that just mean that Support Assist was having issues.
Reboot your computer and repeatedly press (and release) F12 when the Dell splash screen comes up.
The computer will boot to BIOS. Select Diagnostics and let the system run your hardware scans.
Report back here with any results and go from there.

@ECharles Thanks for your reply. The computer in question is a Latitude 7520 laptop. I have tried pressing both F12 and F2 starting when the Dell logo appears and stopping when the Windows logon screen appears. I have tried both on restart and from a cold boot. Nothing gets me into the BIOS. What am I doing wrong?

@ECharles Got It! On this computer you must press the F2 key starting immediately after power on. There is no Diagnostics option in the BIOS on this laptop. I did change the pre-boot POST to thorough but did not get any errors.

@bazsl5f77e9 Yes, I suspect the issue is with Support assist rather than with your computer if you aren't having issues and are not getting any pre-boot issues.
Use Dell Command | Update to update any drivers. Reboot your computer and run the diagnostics on the Dell website under Support/Diagnostics and Tools and see if you get any error messages there.
I've found that the various iterations of Support Assist often cause issues. The first thing I do on a new computer is uninstall anything that has Support Assist in its name. Then, when running the diagnostics, it will reinstall some of them - those are the ones that are really needed for Support Assist to function.
Remember to reboot after you uninstall something and before you run diagnostics.
