Product key Problem

I have reinstalled windows 7 pro SP1 on my dell precision t1500 but during the setup process it asked me to type a windows 7 product key when I put the product key from the case into the computer it went to the next portion of the setup but when i was done with the setup and went to see if i had activated windows it showed that i had an invalid key. Any Help would be appreciated
