Prescision 5570 battery
i have a user with a 5570 prescision with zero charge ability, can i swap out the battery from a 3420 as a stop gap till he can order a new one?
or will i need to be a "same make"

Since the Precision 3420 is a desktop, you must mean the battery from a Latitude 3420.
If so, the answer appears to be no - the batteries are not interchangeable.

Although this compatibility list is for the "smaller" battery, I don't see any model named "3420" so I'm gonna say NO.

What does it read in BIOS?
If you have already managed to open it, maybe try checking and re-seating the connector.
