Precision 7780 and Dell Dock WD19DC/S Problem
Hello Dear Dell Community,
maybe someone here can help us with the following problem.. Prepare yourself for a load.
So.. We have multiple Dell Precision Workstations in use. For example the 7740, 7760, 7770 and 7780. With them we either use the Dell Dock WD19DC or the WD19DCS with a 240Watt Power brick.
Now to the Problem, which ONLY occurs on the Precision 7780 models:
We currently have 14 Precision 7780 and two of them have the issue.
Sometimes when the device is plugged into the Dock (with the two USB-C connectors) it starts up normally and everything works as expected.
Some other times only charging and USB Ports work, but no display connection nor any ethernet connection works. If this happens, the ethernet adapter does not even show up in the device list..
To solve the issue for a short time, we have to restart the laptop, unplug the dock from power seemingly a random of times for it to start working again..
I must state that the issue seems to NOT be a driver issue as the monitor is also NOT recognized when in bios if the issue happens. Normaly I can switch to the second monitor in bios with FN+F8, but not when the issue happens.
What we already tried or what already was done:
- Reinstall of all drivers
- Updating all firmware and bios
- Multiple windows 11 reinstalls
- One of the two precisions that have the problem already had their motherboard changed by dell TWO times
- Changing Dock to multiple others (all W19DC/S with 240 Watt)
We are pretty much out of knowledge to know what to try anymore... The Issue is not even reproducible easily.
Any help appreciated!
-Nick

My company had the same issue with 7780s. We got with our dell rep, troubleshot for weeks, sent pcs to them, they couldnt figure it out either. We came the to the conclusion it was probably a bad motherboard batch and they replaced all of them for us. We havent seen the issue on the replacements they sent us luckily.

We are currently experiencing the same issue, the device Precision 7780 is new out of the box and the docking stations WD19DCS are new. Firmware is up to date and there are not other possible updates to resolve this issues. Anything will help.

Same here. About every time I plug in the dual connector to the laptop on startup a Dell screen notice complains about the wattage being sent to the laptop or lack thereof. But once it's in Windows, Windows doesn't see an issue and it charges just fine. Of course, I'm also using the WD19DCS 240W power brick as well.
