Precision 7750 Install aftermarket GPU
Greetings,
I ordered my Dell 7750 with the standard Intel GPU. I am not much into games so I figured I wouldn't need it. In fact, I don't need it.
However, I know there is a slot on the motherboard for a GPU. Is it possible to purchase an after market GPU to install on my system? If so, would it have to come from Dell or is the form factor standard?
Thanks in advance,
Matt

Welcome to the Dell Community @Muzikman777
There are 4 to choose from but they are expensive.

Best regards,

You would also need a heatsink and fan???

You will need to get a dell card from a Precision 7750. The GPU shape changed from the 7740.
Precision 7710/7720 = MXM a or b
Precision 7730/7740 = proprietary DGFF card
Precision 7750 = proprietary DGFF card (will probably be the same shape/size on the 7760 when it comes out)

Dell doesn't sell them as an after market part? I don't really need one. the onboard Intel has always done the job for me no matter what I do. But, I just wanted the option down the road to do this.

Don't worry, there are always Dell laptop GPUs for sale on ebay. You can even find a few for the 7750 already.
When you are ready, it will be pretty easy to acquire one.

What does the GPU look like for a new Dell 7750? Do you now where I can find a pic?

Actually, I just searched ebay and couldn't find any. I'm sure I could buy one from Dell but it will cost a fortune.

The onboard Intel is good enough for me. I am not a gamer. Thanks for your help.

To upgrade to a Nvidia RTX GPU on your Precision 7750 you will need the following:
DGFF GPU for the 7750 (the only one I can find on ebay right now is the RTX 5000)
DGFF Power cable (search DGFF 7750)
3x DGFF Graphics Cable (search DGFF 7750)
Nvidia Heatsink and fan assembly ?(DPN : FRNMW)?

So, this is not the Quadro series that they offered when I had the system built? This will fit the form factor for new 7750? For a laptop? They are extremely expensive.
Thank you for checking. I appreciate it.

Do you happen to know of a video with gpu install, as well as screw size for the 3 dgff connectors. I have purchased a motherboard for a 7750 with the i9 soldered on and was hoping to get a 7750 with an i5 and just do the upgrade myself as well as purchase an rtx 5000. Do they not come with a gpu heatsink and fan installed even without a dedicated gpu installed? Seems weird they would do this and leave one of the fan slots vacant.

The screws are M2x3 Wafer Head. 7MM Head width. I got mine from laptopscrews.com.
Disclaimer - success stories are few and far between. The only reason a GPU would be on ebay would be if it came out of a Donor. I have a 7730 that I tried putting a P5200 in and just gave up after 2 weeks of discovering parts that needed to be ordered on top of the GPU. Got all the parts and even got thermalright pads and paste, got the cpu temps to be the lowest they've ever been but the thing still throws TDR and Video Scheduler Errors all because of Direct X problems. I am hoping I got a failed card and am swapping for a P3200.
I actually have a program on my laptop that the Xeon Graphics struggles with which is what prompted the upgrade. To be honest according to most reviews, all of the big brand Mobile Workstations suffer thermal problems as the CPU/GPUs get more powerful while the cooling solutions get weaker.
I discovered something interesting on mine, with the P5200 connected and the driver active, the CPU speed would never drop below 4.6 (speedboost max is supposed to be 4.4), and core temps would hit 100C without much reaction from the fans. Setting maximum processor state had no impact despite having all of the current Intel chipset and management software. So because of bad software or bios from dell, I have to return this 5200. The couple times it managed to complete a test, it was great. Those were lightweight tests however. I hope the 3200 doesn't give me grief, otherwise I'll have to get a different machine.
Dell will not help, other than "ReInstall Driver" and "Reload Windows". Changing your card voids the warranty. That's what the Tier 1 guy told me today.

I purchased a RTX4000 graphic card (used), the darwin connectors and the power cable for the graphic card. Installed all of them using the Dell Manual (excellent notes) and started my system back up.
No joy! In Device manager, there is only the UHD Intel video shown. I tried to go into the BIOS and it states the Intel graphics controller, but no Nvidia alternative, nor can I find a place to change it.
Any ideas, help etc??

I can certainly feel your pain. I have exact same issue upgrading dell 7750 video card. Did you manage to find any solution?

Update - After some dialogue back and forth with Dell customer support, I was given the number to call for post support and it was suggested I find out if there is a separate motherboard for discreet cards (since the motherboard has the provisions for the graphic card, I couldn't see why they would design it this way).
Long story short... I removed the screws for the graphic card. Mounted the 3 connectors on the graphic card first, ensuring they were aligned with the guide pins, then with the graphic card still unmounted, positioned the card so I could be sure I had aligned the connectors on the motherboard. I snugged up the screws, put the fans back in place and started the system.
To my surprise the Device Manager showed 2 Display Adaptors, the UHD and a "Microsoft Basic Display Adaptor". I restarted my system and went into BIOS and down to Display. I selected the second option (Switchable Graphics) and forced it to use the Discreet Graphics Card.
When I started Windows (11) it still reported a problem in Device Manager and showed the second card as Microsoft Basic. After a few minutes, the Device Manager updated and now shows Nvidia Quadro RTX 4000.
