Precision 7530 Battery replacement

Question

Hi,

I just bought a Precision 7530 with an almost dead battery. Looking for a replacement I found out that there are 2 sizes available: 7.6V 64Wh and the larger 11.4 97Wh. I have the 64Wh version but I wondered if I could get the 97WH and install it as a replacement for the 64Wh. The difference in voltage made me doubt if this is even possible without frying the motherboard. Btw.: (7.6 devided by 4 (64Wh cells) times 6 (97Wh cells)=11.4. Hope someone could clarify things

Don't worry about the voltage difference. Both sizes are approved by Dell, as can be seen in Dell's specifications for your laptop.

@filbert is spot on with his advice. And may I add make sure to purchase a genuine Dell OEM battery. A 3rd party battery may not be recognized by the system and may not charge properly if at all. Those genuine batteries can be found at parts-People here.

Final thing to check: make sure you do not have a 2.5" drive in the system. If you do, note that the larger battery takes up the space it requires, so you will need to remove it in order to install the larger 6-cell battery.

The laptop I have did not came with a 2.5' drive, there is also no sata/power connector in that area, just a blank plate where that connector should be if shipped with such a drive. So for me it was just an empty space. But you're right: it is something to take in consideration  and be checked out. Maybe if someone has a drive installed and removes it, a bigger battery would not fit because of the sata/power connector from mainboard sticks out. I'am not sure about that.
