Precision 7510 power issue

Hi,

Today into the workshop landed a PMW7510 with an odd power issue: it won't power on when off, and when coaxed into life, it then won't power off via a button, either the onboard or e-dock one.

AC power or battery makes no difference.

I've flashed the BIOS to the latest off the website

Windows shutdown just restarts the PMW

Once running everything thunders along quite happily.

Throw stuff at me, see what I've missed ;) ;

That didn't do the trick either.

I'm pretty much resigned to a new motherboard. I've stripped it of everything else (drives, daughter cards, down to 1 stick of RAM, no keyboard etc) and still no joy.

It's a shame because, other than the insistence that it wants to live, everything else is absolutely fine. (Maybe I should call the board (HAL9000 ;) )

Before going that route, price used systems on EBay -- they likely won't cost much more (and in some cases will be less) than a board alone.

Unplug the system and remove the base cover.  Disconnect the main battery from the mainboard and hold the power button for 30 sec.

Remove and reinstall the memory modules and the storage drive.

Reassemble and see if the issue is resolved.

Thank you, but alas that didn't do it.

I tried 30seconds on each power button too.

Disconnect the battery and see if the system will power up reliably on AC power only.  If it does, the battery is likely the issue.

If it does not, it's likely there's a fault with the system board, which will need to be replaced.
