Precision 5590 (Windows 11) - Speakers/Audio only work when Google Meet or Zoom is active?

Hi Dell Community,

I am running into a bizarre issue with a Dell Precision 5590 notebook running Windows 11. After a recent wave of updates, the speakers and audio output stopped working. It works outside of the OS and in a separate bootable OS, but Windows 11 is not handling it properly. The speaker icon appears in the system tray without errors, and testing the audio in the Realtek console works properly. No applications (such as Chrome, Firefox, etc.) provide any audio output though. When I go to YouTube, for example, I can only hear sounds from my default speaker if I create a Google or Zoom meet and go to it and enable the audio. At that point YouTube will play the audio. We've tried the following:

  • Uninstalling all audio devices, rebooting
  • Reinstalling Realtek drivers from Dell website
  • Updating all drivers using Dell Command Update
  • Updated BIOS
  • Toggled audio device off in BIOS, rebooted, toggled back on in BIOS, rebooted again
  • Toggled Exclusive Mode and Audio Enhancements under Windows' sound properties
  • Toggled Hardware Acceleration
  • Safe Mode boot
  • Clean boot

Even after all of that troubleshooting, we're still back to square one - can only use the speakers for Meet and Zoom and only playback if I have an empty Google Meet/Zoom session up. Can anyone else provide any further troubleshooting steps before resorting to a reimage? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

CORRECTION - THIS IS A PRECISION 5560, not a 5590. My apologies!
