Precision 5560 with WD15 Dock and two 1440p displays

Hello! I have a Precision 5560, a WD15 Dock and two Asus ProArt 1440p 17" displays. I believe from the WD15 manual that it is not possible to connect both displays via the dock, but I should be able to connect one at 1440p, at least at 30 Hz if not 60 Hz refresh rate. My plan would then be to connect one monitor via dongle to the laptop, and the other via the dock. The monitor on the dongle works fine, but the dock can't seem to recognize the other monitor no matter what I try.

What I have tried:

  • Connecting the dock to the laptop (nothing else connected to laptop or dock), then connecting one 1440p monitor to the dock. The monitor detects that it is connected to something, but just shows "no signal" for a few seconds before going back to standby. I have tried DP to mDP cable, HDMI to HDMI cable, DVI to mDP cable, and DVI to HDMI cable, same results for all.
  • Connecting 1080p monitors via the dock on mDP and HDMI. This works fine with either one or two 1080p monitors.
  • Connecting one 1440p monitor to the laptop directly via the USB-C to HDMI dongle. This works fine and shows 1440p resolution without issues.

Any ideas how to get the dock to recognize one of my 1440p monitors?

Thanks!

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

Dell noted by private message that the WD-15 dock is end-of-life, not supported by Dell, and doesn't work with the Precision 5560. They recommended that I should use one of the supported docks instead. As in my original post, the dock does work with 1080p monitors but not 1440p.

I was hoping to get the WD-15 to work as it should be possible according to the manual. However, with nothing further to try, I decided to go with Dell's recommendation and switch to a supported dock. My workplace provided a Visiontek 901005 and Dell WD-19TBS, both of which worked great, supporting 2x 1440p monitors as originally desired. I chose the Dell WD-19TBS as can power the laptop as well, without separate power cable to the laptop.

Apologies to anyone trying to solve this problem with a WD-15 as new docks are expensive. I was lucky that my workplace was able to provide a working alternative at no cost to myself.

@MTurnbull I got 1 1440p monitor working, just needed a mini-displayport to displayport (the big one). But not matter what I did, I could never get a second 1440p monitor to go to that resolution... just 1080p max
