Precision 3551 battery upgrade
Hi,
I have a Dell Precision 3551 <Private data removed from public view. DELL Admin> with 68Wh 15.2V battery in it. I wanted to replace it and I see in the Dell store that I have an option of buying the 97Wh 11.4V battery. Will it work on my laptop considering it has a lower voltage? I am worried the laptop won’t work at full performance because of the lower voltage.
Thank you

The voltage doesn't matter - the battery will work. That said, if you have a 2.5" drive in the system, it will need to be removed to install the larger battery -- you can't have both the larger battery and the 2.5" drive, as the larger battery takes up the drive bay.

@ejn63 thank you very much for your reply.
Do you know if I need a new battery cable or the one that is already installed for the 4-cell battery will work? The 97Wh is a 6-cell battery and I saw a post where someone else was saying they needed a different battery cable for the new, larger, battery.
Thank you

@Markoduran have you got an answer for this, did you upgrade your battery to larger capacity? technically, same cable should work but with manufacturers doing their own thing, it may require different cable. I don't see another cable option for the specified device tho.

@yd1b466f4 yeah I bought the bigger one and it worked. Just make sure you don’t have the hdd installed cause the bigger battery takes up that space too.
Re the cable, I used the one from the original battery and it worked, it just goes along the top edge of the battery rather than through the middle

@Markoduran what was the battery PN on yours? 3571 obviously does require different cable. What they did, connector has all same connections, but they expanded the space in between each contact pin, so that just got me.
