P2723DE loses display connection when Precision 3570 draws too much power
Precision 3570
Hello,
I have a Dell P2723DE monitor and a Precision 3570 laptop. Attached to the P2723DE is another Iiyama XUB2792QSU monitor via displayport. The Dell P2723DE is up to date with the M2C106 firmware.
The laptop connects with a high quality short USB-C cable capable of charging the laptop through the P2723DE 90W output.
When the laptop is (partially) drained and it is charging through the P2723DE, it often happens that the P2723DE (and attached iiyama monitor), lose connection with the laptop, and the communication is reset (as if you unplug the cable and plug it back in).
This happens until the laptop is fully charged again.
It seems that the Precision 3570 requests as much power as possible, but the P2723DE can't supply it and resets itself.
I hope Dell will create a firmware update that will solve this issue, as the display reset can happen every 10 or so seconds depending on the load on the laptop.

I do not see how the P2723DE maximum 90W power delivery is going to be enough to =
- Power and charge the Precision 3570
- Power and display the P2723DE with added daisy chained second Iiyama XUB2792QSU monitor
I think you should always have the provided AC power adapter connected to the Precision 3570 left side TB4 power port.

I assume if the display can deliver up to 90W, the laptop will charge with up to 90W and the display will function as it should.
In this case, the display does not function according to its specification. It can not properly power its own display when 90W is requested to charge an attached device.
It's either this, or the display has no true 90W output limit and the laptop draws more power than the display is capable of delivering within reasonable limits.

Will move this thread to the Precision Laptops board to see if other Precision Laptop users are using the P2723DE in same manner.

I have tried this but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I believe the laptop can't share supplies and will choose one over the other.
In this case however, it does seem to be using the original 90W charger block I received with this laptop, as the charging block is getting warm, but the displays will still lose their connection with the laptop when the laptop is charging.
I wonder if the issue relates to the laptop itself, that the laptop itself can't do a proper video out when it's charging at full capacity and has quite some load on the system resources.
It could be this combination of laptop, charging power and displays, I tested it for a bit (around 10 minutes) using a 130W dell dock (and different displays) and it didn't occur.
