No Audio

Hi,

I've been having audio problems in multiple Os Windows/Ubuntu , as well as an unusual graphics problem in windows(screen turned dim and wouldn't go away)

I own a Precision M6800 and I've been having audio problems. Currently I am on Ubunut 20.04. My audio keeps failing. Audio works on my onboard diagnostics tool/when you press F12 after dell logo shows up.

I don't know if it is a software problem at this point. Could it be caused by a hardware problem? My bios is up to date .

It seems that my CMOS battery is low but not enough to give frequent resets on the time/bios configuration , but enough to interfere with my drivers. If anyone is having problems with audio or drivers in general behaving weirdly on +10 years old laptops the CMOS battery might be your problem.

I had previously tried to hard reset by holding the power button without any external power source/battery for 1 minute but that didn't work . It only worked when I pressed for 2 minutes.
