Internal Microphone Not Working: Volume Always at 0% When Testing on Windows

Hi everyone,

I’m facing an issue with my laptop's (it's a Dell Precision 7670) internal microphone. When I try to test it in Windows, the sound playback always shows a volume level of 0%, even though I’ve already checked the settings.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  1. Verified that the microphone is selected as the default recording device.

  2. Checked the volume levels in the sound settings (both input and output seem fine).

  3. Updated the audio drivers to the latest version.

  4. Ran the Windows troubleshooter, but it didn’t find any issues.

Despite all this, whenever I test the microphone (e.g., by recording something and playing it back), the recorded sound is either completely inaudible.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue? Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

We’re looking into audio issues reported on Latitude systems, and our engineering team wants to investigate further.

To help us out, please reply if you're still experiencing problems — and include as much detail as you can, such as:

  • Your Latitude model
  • Your Windows version
  • What exactly is happening (e.g., no sound, mic not working, distortion)
  • When it happens (e.g., after sleep, during calls)
  • Steps to reproduce it (if possible)
  • Any workarounds you've tried

The more info we get, the faster we can find a fix. Thanks for your help!
