Please can you confirm the Make Model and OS, along with any configuration details like touch screen, backlit keyboard, SFF or tower etc etc.

Next explain what service or supplier you are using.
Also what method you actually employed.

@user_2d9608 The laptop is tied to an organization. You'll need their information to unlock the computer.

Hi
@ECharles has the correct information.
The internet gives a slightly longer version...
If you can’t log in or it’s locked by the old company
If you see things like “This device is managed by your organization”, an MDM enrollment prompt, or you don’t have any working credentials, do a clean install:
On another PC, download the Windows 11/10 Media Creation Tool from Microsoft and create a bootable USB.
Plug the USB into the Precision 5550.
Power it on and press F12 repeatedly to open the one‑time boot menu.
Choose the USB device to boot from.
In Windows Setup, when you reach Where do you want to install Windows?, delete all existing partitions on the internal drive so it shows as one big unallocated space.
Select that unallocated space and click Next to install.
If the previous owner had the machine under Azure AD / Intune with hardware‑enforced Autopilot, you might still get re‑enrolled after install, in which case only that organisation can remove the lock.
Reset BIOS / security settings on the Precision 5550
To clear any leftover BIOS policies or tampering‑related issues:
Turn the laptop off.
Turn it on and press F2 repeatedly to enter BIOS/UEFI Setup.
In BIOS, look for Restore Settings, Load Defaults, or press F9 to load defaults (wording varies slightly by model).
Accept the prompt to restore defaults and then save & exit (often F10).
If you see BIOS, HDD, or admin passwords set and cannot change them, those can be corporate locks; removal may require Dell support and proof of ownership.

@anne_droid Correct. Even if the OP doesn't want to accept it, there are few real alternatives that are legal/ethical. If that login prompt keeps reappearing, then the computer still thinks it is 'owned' by that entity. Like you said
'If the previous owner had the machine under Azure AD / Intune with hardware‑enforced Autopilot, you might still get re‑enrolled after install, in which case only that organisation can remove the lock.'
and
'If you see BIOS, HDD, or admin passwords set and cannot change them, those can be corporate locks; removal may require Dell support and proof of ownership.'
The OP needs to contact the prior owner to get the login info or the company contact. With the company contact, they can get Dell to transfer ownership and then get any passwords removed.
Those locks are in place, however, to reduce theft by making the computer useless to the new 'owner' - one reason to only purchase computers from trusted sellers.
Last year I purchased a computer from a trusted seller. Windows booted up nicely until I connected to my network - at which point it updated, rebooted and asked for an update. The seller took the computer back and has charged back the company that sold it to them.
