Full baterry fully "drained" after running laptop without charger

Hello,

Recently I bought used Dell Precision 5530 and I'm having plenty problems with battery behavior. To the point, when laptop is being turned on without a charger then either it cannot be turned on or it's being turned on correctly but then immediately after the start battery is equal to 1% and "dies".

When for example laptop is being plugged to charger correctly and power status is equal to eg. 45%. Then, when I'm unplugging it, turning off the laptop and running again (without charger plugged) then battery level is set to 1% but when I will plug it to charger (before it dies) then battery is suddenly changed to 45% what is ultra strange.

Additionally, when laptop was charged to 100% then unplugged from the charger it was able to run only to like ~70% on battery and when it hits that's point then it automatically was set to 1%...

Battery was changed to new one and unfortunately the story appears again in case of turning on "charged" battery and laptop shows it's equal to 1% - I'm plugging it to the charger - it's immediately changed to correct battery status...

Any hints & tips for me?

Thanks!

You can try a reset. Unplug the charger, disconnect the battery, press and hold the power button 30 seconds. Then reconnect the battery to see if anything has changed.

If this is the original battery, it's about four years old and likely failing.

Open an Administrator CMD prompt (CMD, run as Administrator).
Paste this command, and then press Enter:
powercfg /batteryreport

That will show a figure for the designed battery capacity (when new) and the current capacity.

You can also run Dell Diagnostics:
Immediately after pressing the power button to turn on the laptop (or after clicking the Reboot command), press F12 repeatedly to enter the One Time Boot Menu, select Diagnostics and press Enter. The Dell Diagnostics will test all your hardware.

I checked and Dell Battery & Adapter shop has OEM batteries for your laptop.

Another reliable source is Parts-People, who also has OEM batteries in stock for your laptop.

Those are common issues when different batteries were changed and caused both hardware and OS to mis-tracked the history of battery progress.

Tip 1, remove battery and power on the laptop with charger/adapter only.  Open Device Manager, expand batteries and remove (uninstall) both MS entries for AC and ACPI.  Shutdown, remove charger, install new battery, plug charger back and power laptop back on.  This will allow update drivers to control and regulate charging power.

Tip 2, calibrate the new battery 2 or 3 times.  Unplug adapter/charger.  Power on laptop, make change to power plan settings to allow battery to drain fully and let it run on battery until shutdown by itself (went to sleep).  Plug adapter/charger back in and charge the battery until full.  Unplug adapter/charger and use the laptop with battery power until drained, repeat this process 2 or 3 times.  Complete cycles will allow hardware and OS to know baseline of battery marker between empty and full.  Hence it will in turn, providing accurate battery status.
