External monitor not recognized on Precision 5760 using Display port to HDMI cable
I have an external monitor with Display Port, DVI and VGA ports; I want to use it with my Precision 5760 which has NVIDIA RTX A3000; Direct Graphics Controller Direct Output Mode has been enabled. I have a Display Port to HDMI cable and a little Dell USB-C to USB-A/HDMI adapter. The monitor is not detected. It is the only external monitor connected. I am using ports on the left as per the Precision 5760 External Display Connection Guide "The devices connected to the ports on the left side of the computer have priority over the ports on the right. While connecting external displays, it is recommended that you connect the displays to the left ports."
I have tried the steps below with this monitor:
- Using the HDMI port on an i-tec c31nanodockvgapd instead of Dell USB-C to USB-A/HDMI adapter - monitor not detected
- Using an ANKER HDMI to USB-C adapter instead of Dell USB-C to USB-A/HDMI adapter - monitor not detected
- Connecting monitor using a DVI cable + DVI to HDMI adapter + Dell USB-C to USB-A/HDMI adapter - works
- I know the Dell adapter and i-tec dock work with other monitors and cables.
- I know this monitor works when connected with a different port & cable.
- The Display Port to HDMI cable is brand new.
Am I missing something, or should I conclude that my Display Port to HDMI cable is DOA?

A bi-directional HDMI to DVI cable can be used to solve your issue.
Connect Dell USB-C adapter to your workstation, connect HDMI connector end to Dell USB-C HDMI port, then connecting DVI connector end to your monitor DVI port.
As for the off-topic question, I guess that uncountable thumbs-up "kudos" spelled with "s", it changed to "kudo" when became countable as 1 thumbs-up.

Maybe your cable is uni-directional and signals can output to HDMI only.
Displayport (PC) ===> HDMI (monitor)

@Chino de Oro Good point. I didn't realise that there were such things these days! I'll see if my IT support guy has any idea, the label on the packaging just says "HDHDPORT-OO5-3M".

Completely off-topic. When one clicks to give kudos, it chanages the word to "kudo", surely kudos is an uncountable noun and the s just happens to be the last letter and not from the formation of a plural?

What I didn't have yesterday was a spare DVI cable, I have since purchased one and connected up as suggested by @Chino de Oro and now I have three external monitors
At least I can tell my IT guy that the cables are uni-directional, which makes sense as they were originally bought to connect the graphics cards in Precision 7820 workstations to monitors with HDMI. The workstations are now nearly all headless and used for remote access since that was the quickest way to keep working through Covid and it's how we've kept things.
