Dell WD19DCS Docking Station + Dell Precision 7550 – “Unknown USB Device” issue
Hello everyone,
I’ve been struggling with an issue for several months now with my Dell WD19DCS docking station connected to a Dell Precision 7550.
The dock generally works fine (I only use one external monitor connected), but every 1–3 minutes I keep getting the following error:
Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)
Port_#0003.Hub_#0003
VID_0000 & PID_0001
Driver: BADDEVICE.Dev.NT
A few observations:
If I connect only one USB-C cable (to the specific port that allows it), the error does not appear.
When using both cables as intended, the error keeps popping up.
I always keep all drivers and firmware fully updated (hoping it would fix the issue), but the problem persists.
I’ve tried different troubleshooting approaches, but I still cannot determine whether the problem is with the dock itself or the laptop.
My question is:
👉 Is there any reliable way to fully test the USB-C port to identify if the fault lies in the docking station or the laptop?
At this point, I’m honestly very frustrated with this dock and would appreciate any advice or suggestions.
Thanks in advance!

Hello @mat3451,
if you want a reliable info, the best action would be trying either a different WD19DC docking station on your Precision 7550 or a different Precision Notebook on your WD19DC docking station.
Troubleshooting wise, I'd recommend you to run a Firmware Upgrade on your Docking Station. If you already run the latest version, try a downgrade to a previous version (you'll have to run the firmware update via command line with the "/f" modifier in order to force the downgrade).
