Dell Precision M6800 with TRIM enabled? (purchased in January 2015)

Hello everyone, can anyone tell me whether TRIM was enabled by default on a Dell Precision Workstation M6800 purchased in January 2015? The built-in SSD was a 2.5'' SATA, and Win 7 Pro was preinstalled. Do you know if the driver/controller mode was set to “AHCI” at the factory? No RAID volume was set up at the factory.
Thank you very much for your answers.

TRIM was introduced in Windows 7 and is not hardware-specific per se, so any laptop that has Windows 7 installed (but is of the Windows 7 era onwards) will have TRIM enabled by default.

Typically M6800s are set to RAID as standard in the BIOS/UEFI, which from what I've read is just AHCI but with RAID support and therefore carries all the features of AHCI as well.

Thank you very much for your helpful reply.
I agree that Windows 7 generally supported TRIM and that, if the SSD was properly recognized and the controller/driver setup allowed it, TRIM may well have been active on my M6800 in its original factory state.
I also understand your point that Dell systems were often shipped with RAID / RAID On as the default SATA setting, even where no RAID array was actually configured.
My question is mainly about the evidentiary side: I am trying to determine as precisely as possible what the original factory configuration of this specific model would have been in January 2015, especially with regard to SATA mode and whether TRIM would have been passed through in that default setup.
So I think your explanation makes this scenario plausible, but I am still hoping for M6800-specific evidence, such as official Dell documentation, factory default information, or first-hand reports from users with an untouched original installation.
Any such model-specific confirmation would be greatly appreciated.

Well unfortunately I can't answer that as the four, yes four, M6800s (including two Covet Editions) that I own were all purchased secondhand and several years after manufacture.

My question to you though, is why do you want/need to know the exact configuration in which the M6800 came from the factory? And why do you need evidence?

@GaryWright

Thank you for asking — I really appreciate your interest.
I’m simply trying to establish the original factory configuration of the M6800 as accurately as possible.
So I’m mainly looking for model-specific information, ideally official Dell documentation, known factory defaults, or first-hand recollections from users familiar with the original setup.

@blockhusudden

It won't tell you everything such as BIOS configuration, but you can get an idea of what hardware (and some software) config a specific unit shipped with by entering a Service Tag into the Support page of the Dell website and going to 'Product Specifications' under the 'Quick links' menu.

Also note that a while back I was able to locate and purchase the super rare M6800 Resource Disc (DVD), but was a little disappointed to find that it literally just had the outdated versions of drivers and software that there's newer versions of found on the Dell website. Unlike some other models of laptop, there were no custom Precision wallpapers or interactive demos, etc.

@GaryWright

Thank you, I appreciate the additional detail.
I had already tried looking it up via the original Service Tag on Dell’s support page, but unfortunately that route was unsuccessful in my case, as support and detailed information for this older system no longer seem to be available.
So although the Service Tag approach is a very good suggestion in principle, it does not appear to help me with this particular unit.
That is why I am trying my luck here in the community, in the hope that someone may still have model-specific information or first-hand knowledge of the original factory configuration.

That's strange. I entered the Service Tag for my M6800 that I can remember and I got the full specs it shipped with. But because there were so many customisation options at time of purchase, possibly no two M6800s will be the same (unless ordered in bulk by a company). So really getting other people's specs or views will give different results to yours anyway. In case you're curious, the Service Tag I used was <To protect your privacy, all private information was removed from this public post. DELL-Admin>.

EDIT: Apologies I didn't reply sooner but I exceeded the number of allowed messages on here!

Thank you, that makes sense.
I understand your point that, because the M6800 had so many factory configuration options, other users’ specifications would not necessarily tell me how my own unit was originally configured.
Unfortunately, the Service Tag route no longer works in my case, which is why I am hoping to find model-specific documentation or first-hand evidence relating to the original factory setup.

Thank you again to everyone for the helpful replies.
I just wanted to post a brief update: I was actually able to retrieve the original configuration details for my M6800 using the old Service Tag on Dell’s original US website.
On the German Dell site, that had not worked for me, as I was essentially told the Service Tag was too old.
The US page showed that the machine originally shipped with a 512 GB 2.5” SATA SSD and with “No RAID” listed in the factory configuration.
Together with my own recollection, that confirms this was a normal factory Windows 7 Pro installation on a single SSD, without a RAID array.
So while I still do not have complete confirmation of the exact original SATA mode or a direct statement about TRIM, this does at least clarify the original shipped configuration more than before.
Many thanks again for the input.
