Dell Precision 7750 Overheating issue

Brad new Laptop : Even after upgrade the latest BIOS from dell website, It is getting very very hot, even when not doing anything/when the screen is sleeping.

I performed “Quick test” in  Diagnostics prior upgrading BIOS in below mentioned machines,  I  couldn’t see any hardware issues from the Diagnostics result Moreover there was no useful information from  task manager as well. As per few technical forum there are few settings that we can change in the power settings ( Example: If you go in to your advanced power options ,the apparent culprit is the PCI Express Settings ) but they are not listed in the affected machines,

i.e., Power options -> Change Advanced power settings (has only below settings)

Desktop background settings
Sleep
Power battery and lid
Display
Battery

Would that be the reason for heat issue? Do we have any drivers to install and check following options are enabled?

Also please suggest to fix this issue?

I'm not able to install the application "Dell power manager" on my dell laptop as it is throwing an error "SentinelOne agent handled quarantine of a threat but requires a reboot". So it is cleared that Sentinel is stopping drivers to install but i haven't get this error when i updated the BIOS and other hardware drivers from dell website. how can i check if the BIOS is installed correctly?

If you have Sentinel One running on your PC better contact your company IT help desk and  ask how to install software to your PC, like "Dell power manager".

You need administrative rights to install software.

What is the current BIOS version?

Run command "msinfo32.exe" and see the current BIOS Version/Date.

Run BIOS update "Precision_7X50_1.8.1.exe" with right mouse button and select "Run as administrator"

BitLocker must be suspended when you flash the BIOS. (If you have BitLocker in use)

BIOS flashing takes several minutes to complete. Have you flashed before Dell computers?

"Intel Processor Power Management Utility" is not visible in Add / Remove programs.

Just install it and trust it's there or check the installation log file from %TEMP% folder.

If you see two lines:

Name of Exit Code: SUCCESS
Exit Code set to: 0 (0x0)

=> Installation was successful.

Or check Windows registry. If you find this you have the utility in your PC.

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Dell\ManageableUpdatePackage\ThermalPpkg

version = 38.5

Precision_7X50_1.8.1.exe - BIOS upgrade reduced heat slightly for few users (Outcome: 25%)  however getting random result for other users whoever using CAD applications. we have also tried to upgrading intel and NVIDIA drivers as well . Outcome is little better.

When we changed the

ThermalManagement=Cool in BIOS, looks good. the only concern we are facing is, fan noise whenever the utilization is high.

Install Dell Power Manager v3.9.0. Change Battery Information => Primarily AC use.

I have Thermal Management => Thermal Setting Optimized. You can also test Quiet value.

Is Intel Processor Power Management Utility version 38.5 installed?

Do you have Dell WD19DC connected? Have you tested without WD19DC?

Power Options - Balanced power plan is in use?

Is Intel Processor Power Management Utility version 38.5 installed? - I haven't find this in Add/Remove programs. Does it means, its not installed?

Do you have Dell WD19DC connected? Have you tested without WD19DC? - No we are not using any dockstation. Using it directly

Power Options - Balanced power plan is in use? - Yes that is the only option available with limited power settings

Precision 7750 model- I have tried to update BIOS to latest version “1.8.1”. Update shows successful but the version looks same before and after upgrade. is there any way that we can check what is stopping to upgrade the BIOS?

Hi;

I have a new Precision 7550.  It is not overheating during normal (or abnormal) use.

However, when I turn it off, or just close the screen, it starts overheating.  It gets really hot while turned off.  Sometimes it just completely drains the battery.

Then I have issues turning it on.

Has anybody seen anything like this?

Thanks

Steve_Rigaku,

Please do refer to the following link and update the BIOS of the system:

Dell Precision 7550 and 7750 System BIOS | Driver Details | Dell US

Once done, restart the unit and test.

This is same on our business laptop 7750. Also I had similar problem with my XPS 9570 and back side of screen burned!

Because of same problem on different models on Dell I have decided to buy Lenovo. Not seems like a premium product but it works very well.
