Dell precision 7520 not working

ive got given by a friend a precision 7520 because it was not working. the symptoms are : no posting on the scren when i press the power button, the fans do not spins, the lights (buttons and on light) no posting on an external monitor, he kept his hdd/ssd so it wont boot in windows, but when i add one of my own, it doesent change a thing....

Someone told me to change the fans because sometimes the computer wont start becasue it does not want to break any parts of itself but i dont want to spend 50$ on something that i wont know if it would change a thing.

also tried to unplug the battery and the cmos battery (at the same time) for at least 48h, didnt change a thing

any ideas on how to solve?

  1. Ensure that the AC adapter, when not connected to the computer has a power LED indication.
  2. Check to see if the AC adapter LED goes off when plugged into the computer. (It the LED goes off on the AC adapter, this indicates a short in the system.
  3. Dell Precision 7520 Owner's Manual Try the MBIST and LBIST hotkeys on PG 80 of the manual. See if that identifies a motherboard or LCD failure.

From your description, it appears to me to be a motherboard failure.

@DELL-Donald K if i remember well, it take lige 5 secs to go out and then the light goes off... if it is really the mobo that died, how can i fix it if it is fixable??

The only fix is to replace the system board.

Whether the cost is worth it to you depends on your intended use for the system -- if you can replace it yourself and the system was otherwise free, and are in for a project it may be worth the cost

That said, complete used working 7520s start around the cost of a mainboard alone.

@ejn63 is it possible that some of the ram i have, hidden under the board (wich i havent removed) might be broken?

@AEC2 That wouldn't keep the computer from trying to start. It is either a motherboard failure or a power supply problem.
