Dell Precision 7520 Not Powering On After BIOS Update via Dell Assistant

Hello,

I’m experiencing a critical issue with my Dell Precision 7520 after a recent BIOS and firmware update using Dell Assistant.

Here’s what happened:

  • The BIOS was updated via Dell Assistant a day before the issue.

  • After the update, the laptop didn’t power on at first, but later started working again.

  • The following day, the laptop completely failed to power on.

What I’ve tried:

  • Removed CMOS battery and main battery overnight

  • Attempted BIOS recovery via Ctrl + Esc (screen doesn’t show anything; only LED response)

  • USB FAT32 recovery attempt (with renamed .rcv BIOS file)

  • Power LED behavior: single white blink every few seconds, no screen output

  • Disassembled and checked for any loose hardware

  • Verified power adapter, RAM, SSD, etc.

Current state:

  • Power button triggers 4 blinks, then a 5th with the power LED, then turns off

  • No POST, no fan spin, no display

I believe this issue was caused by the Dell BIOS update and I am looking for official guidance or escalation. I can’t locate the service tag due to the device state, but I can provide photos if needed.

Please advise on how to proceed or if there’s any further recovery method I may have missed.

Thank you.

The Precision 7520 was supporting 6th and 7th gen Intel processors.  It's too old to be covered under warranty.  If you inquire Dell Support from official channel, reviewing out-of-warranty support options https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000223825/out-of-warranty-support-options, or click on Get Help Now button on lower right of this screen.

For DIY repair, you can attempt BIOS recovery with the boot drive removed, several times as needed.  Or, attempt to power on the system after a complete power drained (leaving battery powered on until depleted)

@Chino de Oro

Thank you for the guidance.

I’ve already tried most of the suggested steps multiple times:

  • The issue started right after a BIOS update using Dell Assistant.

  • Initially, the laptop showed signs of life after leaving it powered off for a while, but now it no longer boots.

  • I’ve attempted BIOS recovery using Ctrl + ESC, with and without the boot drive attached, multiple times. Sometimes the keyboard lights up briefly or the fan spins loudly, but nothing else happens.

  • I also tried power draining (removing the power cable, holding the power button, and even removing the CMOS battery — though it's internally wrapped and hard to access).

  • I’ve tried preparing the USB with different tools (Rufus, FAT32 format, etc.) but couldn’t get the recovery screen to appear.

  • The system now only responds occasionally with blinking power lights or a short fan burst. The behavior changes slightly but never leads to a successful boot or recovery.

I understand the system is out of warranty, but since this issue was directly caused by a Dell-provided BIOS update, I believe Dell should still assist in resolving or at least escalating it. Unfortunately, I can’t retrieve the service tag anymore, and support tools require it.

What options do I have at this point?
