Dell Precision 5490 frustrated long-time customer
I am a long time Dell customer and I purchased a Dell precision 5490 for my new research. I am a finance professor. I purchased the computer in August 2024. I have had nothing but problems with this computer and I can’t use it for my research. The computer runs hot, constantly freezes and at times is extremely slow. I have sent it back to Dell numerous times and purchased the 3 year extended warranty. A Dell repairman came to my house a few weeks ago and the computer still doesn’t work well. The pro support team engineer said they can’t fix my laptop and the account resolution manager refuses to exchange my laptop, give me a refund, or respond to my calls or emails. I am extremely frustrated and have been a loyal customer for over a decade. I am now leaving Dell and purchasing my first MacBook Pro m4 system for my future AI research and I don’t plan on purchasing a Dell computer in the future. I am also encouraging my university to switch from Dell to Apple. What good is a warranty if the firm doesn’t honor it?
A warning to anyone performing machine learning or AI, a tech store where I went for help today told me the Dell precision laptops have a heat design problem and they service a lot of dell precisions. I am an extremely disappointed customer who just wanted a working computer and I don’t have time to continue with months of headache just so I can perform my job duties.

Have any parts been replaced on the system? If so, what was replaced? Have you reinstalled the OS?
To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them. Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. If already out of warranty, click here for the Dell out of warranty offering.
