DELL Precision 3561: replacing 65wh battery with 97wh

Hi!

I'd like to replace the battery in my DELL Precision 3561. I opened my laptop according to the DELL instructions and currently I have a 64wh 4-cells battery. On the left side to the battery, there's a plastic dummy cover (I suppose some additional HDD could be mounted there, but I don't have it):

On DELL support website, I see that this new 6-cells 97wh battery is recommended for my laptop.

It's a bigger one, 97wh 6-cells battery. I assume it is wider. I was told by DELL sales team member that it will fit my laptop. I managed to remove the plastic dummy cover so I assume the new battery will go like below:

Is that correct? Can I replace my current 65wh battery with the 97wh one?

PS: I will do the replacement myself

I'm self-answering this question. I decided to order the 97wh battery and I can confirm that it fits and can be used for replacing the 65wh one in DELL Precision 3561.

Please just make sure to ask the producer or the store you order the new battery from to include the battery power cable! It's a small cable which connects the battery with the motherboard, and it's slightly different from the cable used with the 65wh battery.

@dawidsibinski Thank you so much! I've been desperately waiting for this information for so long!
Would you have the cable reference? Or could you post a photo of the cable? It's not always supplied with the batteries.

@Fran3392  I ordered the battery from an authorized DELL reseller and they shipped it to me without the cable. When I realized that the old cable doesn't fit, I reached out to that store and they shipped the new cable for me for free. I don't have a photo of it. However, when I was discussing this with DELL support, they gave me the following part details:
Dell Part# TVWVN
Description: Battery Cable, for 6 cell battery
Identifier: 450.0NS02.0001

Hope it's helpful.

@dawidsibinski Thank you very much. I just ordered the cable with this part number from Dell. You've been a great help.

Thanks for the documentation. Dell made a real mess in the shop… The cable is only visible, when you hit "Parts & Repairs" => "Parts & repairs for Precision 3561" => "Shop All Precision 3561 parts and accessories". And then it is listed under "Dell Battery cable" – no hint that it is special for the big battery pack nor necessary for it. And as I just noticed, it is available in German shop but not listed in the US-shop… Also it seems you had a really good service technician.

Many of the on the German listed phone numbers are not connected or the phone system was redirecting me back to online sources. And my points of contact are simply gave the reply "you're to operate the machine with the original battery type… Very - ehm - "professional"…

Well, I've ordered it, let's see how successful it would be to replace the dying battery back…

K, got yesterday the cable and it is really as said: the cable with part-# TVWVN is the cable for the 6-cell battery. and if that option is installed, the SATA-2 ¹⁄₂″ place is occupied by the bigger battery, too…

Can confirm that this works to upgrade the Dell Precision 15 3561 battery from the P/N 0R050P0 64 Wh unit to the P/N 53XP7 97 Wh unit. Remember to run the old battery to zero by leaving the laptop on until it dies before removing it. You'll have to remove both the black placeholder to the left of the original battery and the blue retention bracket for it to fit. Remove the existing motherboard power connector by pulling up, not laterally. Don't forget to thread this particular item's cable through the gap in the new battery so that the motherboard connector comes out the other side. Attach the new motherboard power connector by pressing down.

I used a Philips 00 driver, but the same driver that removes the laptop base cover will work.
