Dell Precision 3560 Disk(0) was not found. Possible cause Missing Storage Driver
Hi,
I've been struggling to get the Dell Precision 3560 to Image with MDT, We've got 35 of them to image and need to get them ready asap. I've been using MDT for a while to image Dell laptops and Microsoft Surfaces and can usually get to the bottom of these issues but this one has me beaten.
The laptop PXE boots into the WinPE environment and when the Task Sequence attempts to format the disk it fails with -
Operating System Deployment did not complete successfully
Disk(0) was not found. Possible cause Missing Storage Driver
DiskPart shows no disks available but when booting the laptop from the local drive it detects the drive fine so this is apparently a storage driver issue missing from the WinPE environment.
In the past when I've attempted to resolve this issue on different models it was a case of switching from RAID to AHCI or prepping the disk in DiskPart in the WinPE environment but no luck with this one.
I have injected any and all drivers I can find from Dells WinPE drivers cab, the device specific drivers pack and manually downloading the drivers from Dells support page, each time updating the Deployment Share, replacing the .WIM file and restarting the Services with no success.
I've also updated the BIOS but this didnt help, disabled SATA, Secure Boot and all sorts of BIOS combinations with no success.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem and resolved it, even if its with different model but the same issue?
Thanks

For anyone who might come across this thread in the future I've finally managed to resolve the issue.
Updating MDT, ADK and WinPE Add on resolved the issue.

Bumping this, its still an issue and getting a bit desperate after trying everything I can find. My best guess at this point is the provided driver for this laptop does not work with WinPE

Disable Software Remapped Intel® Optane™ memory volume or Software Remapped Intel® RAID volume before attempting to boot into WinPE
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000055157/memory-and-storage.html
In BIOS setup go to Storage and change from "RAID On" to "AHCI/NVMe" , worked for me.

Hi,
Thanks for the info, is this just a fancy way of saying switch Raid to AHCI in the BIOS or is there something additional to be changed also?
I have already switched to AHCI and injected the RST driver into the .WIM and this hasn't worked I still receive the same error.
Thanks

Is this for same model Laptop, Precision 3560?
I'm not sure what you mean by manually select it, I imported all of the drivers in same package as yourself but started to realise that its either not picking up the correct driver from the package or none of them work.
I am using the same driver download as you but exactly which driver is it that needs injecting to the .WIM file for it to recognise the drive in WinPE please? I've tried most but I've never had to do this before I usually just inject the package but it sounds like I need to inject the content of a specific folder from the download?
There are multiple folders, "F6" and "Drivers" and in each one there are multiple folders, some "VMD" and some "NonVMD"
Thanks

Did you inject the Intel RST VMD driver in your MDT boot image as well.
When imprting my SCCM installation didn't recognise the driver as a storage driver so I had to manually select it and add it to the boot image.
I'm using the Dell driver Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Driver_HHN7T_WIN64_18.1.3.1036_A03.EXE

I was able to get past this by physically moving the M.2 from SSD1 slot to SSD2.

Hi,
I had to update MDT to the latest version the Precision 3560 refused to image until I did this and it would only image in AHCI, I still cant get them to image in RAID mode.
I cant remember the exact details but if you google update MDT their is guidance available and it was in 3 stages, MDT Update, APK Update, WinPE Addon Update. Guidance makes it seem complicated but its easier than it looks. Just be sure to back up your MDT server first.
Once I completed this the Precision 3560 imaged successfully in AHCI.
Hope that helps
