Can I charge my dell precision 5540 from the thunderbolt 3 port ?
I want to know if I can charge the precision 5540 from the Thunderbolt 3 port because I can't always take the main charger with me, so can I charge it from a normal 100w charger through the Thunderbolt port
OR
Should I buy a Type C converter for the main charging port and charge it from a normal charger

While charging through thunderbolt port might work, you must use a Dell genuine 130w power adapter for the system to recognize and accept enough wattages. Unbranded or unknown charger will give you issue.

The machine should be fine with 65W to charge but I have not tried a larger Dell PSU as I have Lenovo which can run pretty much anything I own.

I've frequently charged my 5530 with an aftermarket (buy high quality) 140w USB-C charger and a Dell 130w USB-C with no adverse effects. The computer was not happy when I tried a 65 and 100w charger. At this point, I've ditched all my barrel chargers.
I suspect that the 5540 will be the same.

My Lenovo 135W brick handles everything I own as the biggest power pig I have is my Lenovo P52
