Can Dell Precision 7710 charge with USB-C
TLDR; My laptop charger stopped working and I tried to plug with my phone 60watts type c charger which showed an error of you've attached an undersized 60w power adapter"
So my main question now is that, if I have a 180watts USB type c adaptor, would it charge my laptop?
Good day, so I was using my dell precision 7710 two days ago while plugged when all of a sudden, the laptop went off, I tried turning it on over and over again but it didn't on, tried the whole remove battery and press power button countless times but it didn't work
After leaving it overnight, I woke up the next morning and surprisingly, the laptop turned on and I used it till the battery was down cause the power was out, the power came back and I tried plugging it but it didn't work, no charging icon or anything turned on, I unplugged and plugged it back but still nothing, I even tried removing the battery, plugging it and turning it on, but I got nothing as well, so I decided to just plug it overnight but still, in the morning when I woke up, there was nothing, no charge nothing
My phone uses a USB type c with a 67Watts charger, so I plugged the USB type c into the type c port of my dell precision 7710(mine has a type c port) and then the screen turned on and it said "you've attached an undersized 60w power adapter which is less than the recommended 180w blah blah blah" and I clicked f1 which retry the reboot and it showed my home screen but it was stuck at 1% and I was having issues with the track pad, I tried putting the PC to sleep with the charger plugged in for 30 mins but still no power increase. Then I shut it down and waited for an hour but the battery doesn't increase
So my main question now is that, if I have a 180watts USB type c adaptor, would it charge my laptop?

Not at full speed, and not sufficient to run the system at full power. The max charge power is 100 W over Thunderbolt.
If the system doesn't recognize the AC adapter (the one using the barrel port), try a new OEM Dell adapter first. If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC input jack in the system.

@ejn63 but with the usb-c charge, I can get it up to enough battery percentage to try out things like driver update or bios reinstallation?

Maybe to the former, but no to the latter. Do not attempt a firmware flash without a recognized, full-power AC adapter connected.

Alright mate, thanks for answering
But starting with the cause of my problem, what do you think could have happened that caused my laptop to suddenly die while I was using it plugged and not turn on till the the next morning and then refuse to charge?
When it turned on in the morning and I checked event viewer, I saw an error code 41, I don't know if it'll help in any way

It could be a mainboard failure, but given the cost to replace that, start with the AC adapter and DC jack.

@ejn63
Gmmm
I'm back again, so I sent the laptop over to a repair shop and I believe they worked on it
Now I got it back, there wasn't power when I went to collect it and the battery was flat so they couldn't charge it
So after getting it back and I plugged it in, I noticed something, the charging led comes on, turns back off and then turns on again and this time it stays on meaning it's charging
If I remove the battery and try to charge it, the charging led blinks and turns off meaning there's no battery to charge
If I try to turn on the laptop in any of these scenarios, it doesn't come on
Laptop is a Dell precision 7710

Without knowing what they repaired, it's difficult to say. Did you or they replace the Dell (not USB-C) adapter and or the power jack?

I would check with them to see why they did that -- and whether they have a warranty on their work. If the system is still not charging with a known good AC adapter and DC jack, it's possible other components (MOSFETs, resistor, etc.) are also faulty.
Mainboards for this system are not all that expensive depending on whether you want a warranty on the board -- they're $100 without or about $250 with one year (parts-people.com).

@ejn63 Okay, now new error
I disconnected and reconnected the bios battery and now when I plug it, the power on led stays on for like 10 seconds then it blinks and stays on again for another 10 seconds basically repeating that cycle
I'm confused, I don't understand what's wrong, laptop isn't turning on as well
At this point, I think a new motherboard is the go-to solution
