Best use of Dell WD19DCS

I have two Dell Computers, 7780 and 7520, two monitors U4919DW and U2723QE plus a WD19DCS docking station.

At the moment I have the 7780 driving both monitors (plus built in -but not used - cover closed) and the 7520 driving the U4919DW via USBC (plus built in -but not used - cover closed).

Hotkeys are used to switch between systems.

Having spent a lot of time studying the available documentation and searching for more information I am at a loss to know if it is possible to connect both computers so that each can drive both monitors.

If this is not possible would a replacement for the 7520 allow this or a change of monitor or both? e.g. the later 49 inch monitor and which dell computer that has two hard drives and good video capability?

Before our users can assist in troubleshooting, you need to specify the models.

7780 = Precision Laptop or Optiplex Desktop?
7520 = Precision Laptop or Latitude Laptop?

@DELL-ChrisM2 Thanks Chris.  Both are Precision Model Laptops

I assume you

- have both monitors plugged into the WD19.

- are driving the computers via the USB-C on the WD19.

Have you tried only using the 7520 by itself with the WD19? What happens? Are both monitors working?

@ECharles Both monitors are connected to the WD19.  One via HDMI and the other via DP.

The 7780 computer is connected to the WD19 via both USB-C cables for both Power and Data. Plus the 7780 is connected via USB-B1

I have tried connecting one USB-C from WD19 to the 7520 USB-C port.  Both monitor were working.  In fact I could also use the built in monitor and a further monitor.  In total four monitors with the 7520.  No doubt the 7780 would do the same.

I have come to the conclusion once I fully understood the working of the WD19 that it is not possible to switch both monitors to one or other computer using KVM.

There are two work arounds: -

1. Using the Switch on the 2723QE to automatically select the input once the KVM has been switched.

2. Select a short "sleep" time for the monitors (say 2 minutes) and then soon after two minutes has passed after switching from one computer to the other, the 2723QE switches to the "live" input. DP for 7780 or HDMI1 for 7520.

Both are reasonably acceptable solutions as I see it.
