Best PCIe slot for OS NVMe in Precision 7740?

  1. Is there a preferable slot (in general) for the OS NVMe drive in Precision 7740?
  2. Because in one 7740 I intend to have the OS installed on a 970 EVO Plus, and Samsung says it has to be on: "(i) PCIe slot directly connected to CPU or (ii) M.2 or PCIe slot connected to PCH", which are these in the case of the 7740?

1.  Yes, preferably, you want to install your OS NVMe drive on slot 3, 5, or 6, but not on slot 4.

2.  Since it's a laptop, there is no other storage controller (MegaRaid).  All the M.2 slots in the 7740 are directly connected to either CPU or PCH.

@Chino de Oro thank you for your response!

1. Yes, I meant among slots 3-5-6 whether there's one of them that is preferable.

2. The reason I'm asking which slot is direct-to-CPU and which is connected-to-PCH is because those two options are not identical in the case of the 970; i.e., in the PCH case the mode should be AHCI only, while in the CPU case there seems to be no such prerequisite.

1.  No preference between slot 3, 5, and 6.  They all can be used for NVMe boot drive.

2.  The type of processor used will dictate and limits PCIe lanes can be wired to M.2 slot(s).  All 3 slots support PCIe Gen 3 NVMe, there is no difference in performance.
