Video blackout issue T7920

I have a T7920 on Windows 11 with dual Gold 6138 CPUs, 128GB RAM, a GTX970 GPU and a Dell S3225QS 4K monitor. Within the past week I've started having a issue where, sometimes, the screen will blackout momentarily. It will sometimes happen just as I'm logging in and if I do a restart, it will typically be fine. Occasionally the blackouts will continue even after a restart.

I'm not seeing anything in the event logs that would point to a GPU or monitor problem. I've already verified that I have the latest driver installed.

NVidia doesn't appear to have any diagnostics available. I have the Dell SupportAssist installed, and I've run the Scan hardware tests. I've run this while the problem was occurring and the blackouts become far more frequent. I've also run it when the problem was not occurring, and there are no blackouts during the testing.

The hardware scan status indicates Warning, but all the individual tests indicate Pass. (UPDATE: this is apparently a bug in SupportAssist, looking for a laptop battery on a desktop computer)

I have checked all of the connections and cables.

Does anyone here have any suggestions about what to try next?

Thanks,

Ken

Update: I have been through every exposed Event Log and there are no events that coincide with the timing of the blackouts.

I restarted the system at 11:26. There were multiple blackouts until approximately 12:07. For the past 40 minutes there have been no blackouts.

I'm really at a loss. No ideas yet on what to look at next.

Hello,

imho, you should test with another gpu, in case the current one is developing issues

@mazzinia_

I just received 2 gtx1080 ti blowers. I'm expecting an EVGA PRO SLI Bridge HB to be delivered today.

@mazzinia_

First, SLI was a waste. The T7920 supports SLI but not on every SLI compatible GPU. SLI isn't available for the GTX1080 TI Blower in the T7920. But I can still use both to help speed up my video renders.

Second, I've still got a problem with the screen blacking out. It does seem to be session based. It does not happen every time I boot the computer.

Two different sets of GPUs with 2 different drivers. It happened with a pair of GTX970s and now a pair of GTX 1080 TI Blowers.

@kenact71875e  Are you able to try any other monitors?  What hookup is being used; any adapters?  If HDMI is being used, try DP.

@bradthetechnut I'm using DP and I don't have another DP monitor. I know it isn't impossible for it to be the monitor, but it is less than 3 months old.

As I said, the weirdest part is, if the blackouts start, restarting Windows will usually clear it up. For instance, it's been running nearly 12 hours without a blackout. When it is blacking out, it's every few minutes.

Well, at this point I can only think at 2 options :

1) some issues with windows

2) the psu has some issues with the rail giving power to the gpu

It looked like you were having issues trying a different GPU.  Were you able to try a different GPU as mazzinia suggested?

@bradthetechnut that he did, he tried using gtx 1080. At this point the only things left are the OS installation having some quirk, or the psu having an issue on the rail used to power the gpu, I think

Even though the monitor is newer, I think a different monitor should be tried.  Also, try a different hookup, such as HDMI.  Then look at Windows and/or PSU.

A couple of years ago, I bought a refurb Dell P2219h monitor.  It had blackouts, so I thought it was the monitor.  I then got a P2319h monitor.  Same thing.  Switched hookup from HDMI to DP.  No problems since.
