Using Fan Pump Header as Normal PWM Fan Header with Stock Air Cooler?

Hello,

I've got a Precision 3660 Tower with what I believe is the stock air cooler (I'm new to Dell and not yet sure how to get the part list associated with my Service Tag). There's a pretty Intel stock cooler-looking CPU cooler, front intake, and rear exhaust fans. The BIOS is at default settings, with automatic fan control for the air cooling system. Everything seems to be working great.

I've added a 10 Gbps NIC. Those tend to get pretty hot, so I put an active Noctua fan on the NIC itself. Right now, I'm running the fan connector out the back of the case into a USB fan controller.

I see a PUMP FAN 4 pin header on the board that's not being used. It's the only 4 pin fan header I can see that doesn't have a stock fan plugged into it.

Question: Can I use the PUMP FAN 4 pin header as a normal/standard PWM fan header for a Noctua fan?

  1. Or will the BIOS freak out and think I've plugged in a water cooling pump fan?
  2. Also, does anyone know if the PUMP FAN header is a standard PWM pinout? I can use breadboard connectors to move the pins around if I have to, but I don't want to cook anything by accident. :)

Thanks!
