Upgrade CPU on a Dell Precision Tower 7910
Hello,
I would like to upgrade the CPU of my workstation Dell. Now, I have 2 Intel Xeon E5 v3 with the following features:
- Cores: 12
- Threads: 24
- Name: Intel Xeon E5 v3
- Code Name: Haswell-E/EP
- Package: Socket 2011 LGA
- Technology: 22nm
- Specification: Intel Xeon CPU E5-2670 v3 @ 2.30GH
Motherboard is the 0215PR model.
Do you have any suggestion to improve computational speed/capabilities of the workstation?
Thanks a lot!

This forum post has a number of suggestions. Also this page at greenpcgamers has a list of compatible CPUs.

I'd suggest to upgrade the CPU to a matching pair of E5-2680 v4. That is a 25% of performance power increase for around $29 USD. The TDP is still the same 120w, therefore, you can use the same CPU coolers and nothing else needs to be changed besides some new thermal paste.
