T7960 takes a long time to restart/boot

Hi all. I have a new Dell 7960 workstation with 256GB memory and a w9-3495x CPU, really high end. But I noticed that recently Windows 11 ( December 2024 edition) is taking so long to restart. When I press restart, Windows takes like 3 minutes to make the screen black) then fans goes up load (like 30% higher) and the computer stays like that for 5 minutes (I see the white light, but seems like nothing going on), then the computer posts and Dell logo comes up and then after that it takes another 5 minutes to boot. I have re-installed Win 11 again, I have tried Windows 10 as well. No luck. I have tried pre-boot diagnostics and no issue is reported. I have reinstalled all the drivers etc. no luck. I have downgraded and upgraded the BIOS. No luck. I have changed Raid on to AHCI. No luck. This bothersome issue that restarting takes such a long time is very frustrating. Shutting down is quick, but waking up after the shut down takes a few seconds to post but again like 5 minutes to boot Windows. As long as I am on Windows there is no issue.

Have you encountered this issue? Do you think this is a new Windows update issue? any insight is  appreciated.

Also sfc /scannow and chkdsk do not show any issues.

Hello,

what was your boot time , before this started ? You could maybe try to check

windows 11 - it takes long time to restart (boot) - solved - Microsoft Community

@mazzinia_ It was much quicker than 15 minutes. After spending days, I could partially resolve the issue, which was due to Dell SupportAssist software. The software caused the restart to take ages and made the fans run loud during the restart.

Well, glad you pinpointed at least part of the issue. SupportAssist is not a must. You can easily live without it (or other similar software) and simply check on the dell website from time to time, if there are upgrades you may be interested into.

ps, Merry xmas

Before this problem, my boot time was only about 1-2 minutes. After updating to Windows 11, my boot time has increased to around 10 minutes. I checked windows 11 - it takes long time to restart (boot) - solved - Microsoft Community time calculator but couldn't find solution

@alexiaamber Yes, Windows 10 was very quick. Windows 11 is not really optimized for large memopries on the Dell 7960. What I did was I completely got rid of Dell's related software, and then updated the BIOS. However, it was not until the last Windows 11 major update that the boot time was reduced to 2-3 minutes.
