T7920 - Convert Flex 0 from SATA to NVMe

Hello,

Can anyone help please?

I'm trying to find the part number for the kit for a T7920 to convert Flex 0 (bottom bay) from 2xSATA to 2xNVMe.

The machine's current spec is 2xSATA in the bottom flexbay (Flex 0) and 2xNVMe in the top flexbay (Flex 1).

I'm wanting to convert this to 4xNVMe.

I looked here: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-uk/000146243/upgrading-storage-in-the-dell-precision-5820-7820-7920-tower-workstations

I thought I'd found the answer with a 575-BBSP ...

... but ...

... when watching the video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBF3x_dV4U0

Dell Precision 7920: Flex Bay Upgrade - Convert to PCIE Intel

This shows both flex bays (0 and 1) being exchanged from SATA to NVMe.

When I find the kit 575-BBSP on Dell's site: https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/convert-flexbay-1-to-2x-pcie-ssd-with-integrated-intel-controller-for-precision-7920-tower/apd/575-bbsp/storage-drives-media#compatibility_section

This shows only 1x NVME backplane. The URL also suggests that this kit is only for converting flex 1 from SATA to NVMe ... which I'm thinking the machine already has being half SATA and half NVMe.

I'm totally happy to buy a kit that make flex 0 + flex 1 *all* NVMe with 2x backplanes, 2xfans, 2xsets of cables, and then write-off anything already in the machine.

I just can't find the part number for the kit that I need.

Can anyone help?

Thanks tons,

Steve.

Hello,

maybe is 076w3n . I'm trying to find out if it's for any of the 2 flexbays (0 / 1) or if this is specifically for one

Hello @mazzinia_

Thanks for replying.

Yeah - I think I came across that part number too. I'm still not sure if it's an alias for 575-BBSP which is listed in the T7920 docs.

I think ... **really think** that the NVMe backplanes are unique for Flex 0 and Flex 1 and not interchangeable.

In the video about at 1'11" the engineer fits the two new NVMe backplanes to Flex 0+1. It looks like they are mirror images of each other with the fan placement and cable attachments.

What I still haven't found is the part used in that video that contains 2x NVMe backplanes for both Flex 0 and Flex 1. I'd be happy with that kit even though it would duplicate the bay that is already NVMe.

It's a real shame for the ambiguity from Dell because that page Upgrading Storage on the T7920 Workstation is brilliant. It's just that it seems to either have the wrong parts listed or the items shown in the videos don't match the words on the page :(
