T7820 windows 11: ssd in flexbay windows does not boot after driver update
Hi.
Just moved to w11 on Dell T7820.
While the ssd in the flexbay is perfectly working under w10 it just does not appear under w11.
Ssd is visible in bios. Startup in UEFI mode (w11).
Device manager indicates Raid issue on the ssd in the flexbay..
Windows update can't find drivers. Dell support site provides a driver (one of three to install urgently) which works perfectly at least during the session when.it was installed.
Upon the next bootup I get a windows bluescreen "IRQL not less or equal". No way to get back into windows 11 even when rebooting in different repair modes. Fall-back to previouse restauration point works.
I have done a hw selftest with the Dell automatic test indicating there is no hw problem.
So my best guess is that I have an issue somewhere between Bios and the driver.
- working during install session and blocking during subsequent boot -
Has anyone come across the issues and an idea how to fix it ?
Thank you in advance

Don't let the tool check and propose what to use.
Use the area underside to look for it manually
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Enterprise DriverTHIS PC
Storage Controller 08 Apr 2021
Version
7.0.2.1015, A12|Older versions
File Name
Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Enterprise-Driver_22P84_WIN_7.0.2.1015_A12.EXE
File size

You will find this one. This one works for win10 AND win11 . the 6.2.2 you got offered is for win10 only.

I've a similar system, and this is a bit scary ( still on win10 ). Is your bios set as ahci or raid ?

@RABAsirap thanks ( now I know that the update itself should not cause boot issues to the boot unit ).
May I ask what driver was, that you installed ?

Bios AHCI, tested raid also -> problem remains
The ssd is not the boot one but one in the tray.
Nvme, 1TB, crucial.
As I said the driver works during the session when it is installed.
Could be helpfull to get advice from Dell staff who developped the driver.
Anybody knows how to do this ?

The ones on the list which are marked.
Bios is ok.
The nvme driver at the bottom allowed me to see the drive and configure windows 11 during my session untim reboot.
List from Dell support site:

Oh, i thought that you had a crucial unit , not a micron. (plus that one is a firmware update to the nvme controller on the nvme itself. It's not something that restoring windows to a previous time will remove, it's like changing the bios )
Without installing anything, can you boot without issues ( aside not seeing the other ssd ) with windows 11 ?
(all those are updates that do not apply to me : I don't have the wifi/bluetooth adapter installed, and I follow the old server mantra to not update the bios unless forced to... and unless I change the cpu, I have 0 reasons to apply a new bios that will slow down the computer + risk other issues if unlucky )

My suggestion is to remove the driver in Device manager and reinstall it.

Will try this again. However when I had a look at it yesterday wondows told me that it could not find a driver and I schould get in contact with the manufacturer. Since I have reinstalled windows 11 and the ssd in the flexbay is still not accesible.

Ok possible solution here, please try this @RABAsirap
go to CONTROL PANEL >> STORAGE SPACES the disk (nvme) that doesn't show/work is supposed to be there and you need to delete it and clear it.
After doing this, the the disk should immediately show in Disk Management

Also, I just found this
https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-11/windows-11-doesn-t-recognize-an-m-2-nvme-in-a-pcie-slot-after/m-p/3062052
that is getting no answers. It's similar to what you are experiencing now, i think ?
