T3600 bios issues/Linux lockups

I may have a corrupted bios on this system Precision T3600
When looking around in my bios options it totally freezes after a few seconds. Barely lets me do anything...
I bought it off amazon in 2018 and it allready shipped w A17 bios version.... I've been having a lot of random lockups lately on linux and I had a look at journalctl and found this:

TSC found unstable after boot, most likely due to broken BIOS. Use 'tsc=unstable'
Would flashing to A18 possibly fix this issue and my corrupted bios? And does updating bios versions reflash or just apply patches?

The T3600 was introduced in 2012; too old for BIOS recovery.  Trying to flash or upgrade BIOS on it won't work.

However, you might try installing a new size 2032 battery and How to Perform a BIOS or CMOS Reset and Clear the NVRAM on Dell Computers.  It's worth a shot before giving up on it.  If BIOS then works, you'll be able to upgrade it.

A bad battery will give BIOS problems leading to computer problems.

@bradthetechnut  the bios works and the system functions but it has random lock ups

the bios config locks up randomly as well.

do you think that upgrading it to A18 will fix the issues?

@remixedcatmusic

My answer remains the same.

Bad batteries do cause random freezes.  Attempting to upgrade BIOS with a bad battery is not recommended.

ok... one thing that was bad before I did that settings reset... one of the last pages was a "system logs" thing in bios...

before it was totally blank

after I reset it now the log actually shows stuff...

the log entry said "please run the setup, there appears to be incorrect settings in bios" !! that was around the time I bought this system so the amazon seller must have flashed it really quickly before selling it to me in 2018 without resetting things...

seems to be working a bit better after the reset...

however, please do not close this thread yet, as I am now moving on to the other issues now..

One shouldn't need to reset BIOS before updating it.  But if it's not working properly...

@bradthetechnut yeah that's what I'm trying to see if it's my bios causing the lockups or other things
