SAS Drives to SATA Ports on Motherboard

Hey all,

I have a Dell Percision 5820. It has a SAS backplane and a LSI 9460-16i RAID card. I want to bypass the RAID card and simply use the SATA ports on the MB. The cables coming from the backplane are SATA cables but they are plugged into the RAID card as MiniSAS. Is this a possible configuration?
