SAS Drivers needed HDD0 to HDD4 not working

Hello,

   I have a T5600 Service Tag <private info removed> with WIN10 Pro 64bit Xenon E5 2620.

There's an SSD in SATA0 and a DVD in SATA1. I want to add an HDD but HDD0 to HDD4 on the motherboard aren't active. My new HDD is plugged into HDD0 and it shows up in BIOS but not in Device Manager. In Device Manager, Other Devices > SAS Controller is present. If I go into the BIOS and disable SATA, that disappears as does the HDD in BIOS.

Right clicking SAS Controller and Updating the non present driver leads to " Windows cannot find a driver".

So, it seems like I'm rounding third base, the motherboard knows that my HDD is present and connected but all that's needed is a driver. Where can I find that driver ?

I've entered my Service Tag number into Dell Downloads but nothing is available. Dell Support won't help...too old they said.

   What can I do ?

Thanks,

Ed

Problem solved.

I had loaded several drivers not realizing that I was simply putting the files in Dell/Drivers and not installing them.

When I downloaded the drivers, I opened the file after "Installing" them by running the .exe and figured that I was done. Not so.

In Device Manager I had repeatedly run Update Driver and allowed Windows to "Search automatically for updated driver software" which repeatedly and instantly came back as "Windows could not find a driver".

Then, while searching other forums, a poster suggested to someone else to utilize "Browse my computer for driver software". So that's what I tried and picked C:Dell/Drivers / downloaded drivers and that instantly worked.

The first driver that I tried worked and it was  Intel RSTe f6 iaStorS 64 7YHMF  or something like that. If I had done that the week before, when I downloaded it, I could have saved some aggravation.

Looking back, I don't see that driver for my T5600 on Dell's site but it is on Dell's site and elsewhere.

Once I had that driver issue resolved, I tried a driver updater that comes, for $25, with a popular computer cleaner software. It found drivers for everything in Device Drivers that had a yellow exclamation point. It was worth the money.

Maybe next time, I let Dell "Automatically find drivers for you".

Thanks for your input !

Hello,

under Computer Management > Disk Management , you don't see any uninitialized unit ?

For drivers, you can use the one available on the dell support site for the 7500 for Windows 7 x64

Hello and thank you for replying.

Under Disk Management, there are no uninitialized drives. If I plug the HDD in HDD0 into the SATA port in place of the ODD, the HDD is seen. That let's me know that I don't have an issue with the HDD itself.

The WIN10 SSD is in the other SATA port.

I've attached a Snip of the Dell T7500 WIN7 64bit drivers in the categories of SAS Drive and SAS RAID.

My HDD is a Seagate SkyHawk ST4000VX016.

I don't know enough to know which download to pic if any of the ones listed.

Ed

What are your thoughts ?

Select Storage Controller as Category.

There's just one entry : Dell Precision Adapter Driver , recommended , june 2012

Try that one

That didn't work. I'm not surprised since I don't have the PERC H310/H710P adapter.

There must be a solution. The motherboard has these HDD ports. Device Manager shows them. They just need a driver.

I've read archived posts from users with the same issue and some have been resolved. One poster said that a Dell s

Support member sent him the driver and it worked.

Goto device manager, select the controller dirver and right click select properties under the details tab select Hardware ID's can copy to top value here, it should look something like this

PCI\VEN_1000&DEV_0097&SUBSYS_080815D9&REV_02

It might be this one for your model

@mazzinia_ I downloaded and received a message that the drivers in that download are older than what I already have on the system.

@claytonb

Here is a snip of my hardware IDs.

Clicking your link results in a blank web page.

Ok

Pre-OS Windows 7 and Windows Vista 32-Bit Driver for Intel C600 SCU Controller | Dettagli sui driver | Dell Italia

download this , is a 450kb executable.
Don't run it, open it with 7zip , and save the content in a folder of your choice. Then point the sas controller to look for the driver there

Edit
Driver IRSTe F6 | Dettagli sui driver | Dell Italia  this one is a more recent version. instructions are the same, you will have to aim to the right subdirectory until it finds a match

If you Google the Hardware ID's it usually tells you what the driver is for and Dell should have it listed on their support page for your PC, I wouldn't trust those driver updating software programs, just out to make money!!
