Precision T5600 not booting cycling back to Dell screen

Hi,

We have a Precision T5600 with Intel RST and RAID1 system drive. When powering on it goes through the Dell screen the Intel RST config menu appears, shows both mirrored drives as ok and array as bootable and then it goes to a black screen for about 10 sec only for it to cycle back to the Dell screen - repeat. (Apropos should be booting Windows 10)

I can F12 into Boot menu and boot Ubuntu from USB stick or DVD fine. Boot menu says Legacy boot mode and secure boot turned off. That is as it should as the system drive is MBR.

I'm puzzled that there isn't even an error message or that it just sits and wait.
Any ideas what this behaviour points to? (I would go for restoring MBR next)

Hi,

Thank you, but this was not a service request. We have resolved the issue by restoring the MBR manually using the command utility from the Windows installation medium in repair mode.

bootrec.exe /FixMbr

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

Oh no, MBR exactly means the "legacy boot mode"...Do not mistaken it with SATA legacy mode, i.e. non-AHCI DMA SATA controller mode.

MBR-partitioned disks may have UEFI loader (non-legacy). GPT-partitioned disks can not have an MBR boot sector, therefore the legacy mode is pointless with GPT.

Seems, you had both boot options functional on your disk formatted in MBR, but at some point the UEFI loader itself, or the path to the loader in BIOS were damaged.
