Precision 7910 won't open BIOS, will boot to Windows (or ESXi, or whatever installed on it)

Alright, I've got a Precision 7910 here with 2 CPUs and 32GB of RAM and a Quadro RTX 5000 GPU, it will normally boot windows and operate as expected. However, it doesn't allow me to enter the BIOS.

I flashed A34 on it, and that didn't help.

Windows restart with held shift, advanced, configure UEFI results in a reboot with a sold cursor in the top left corner of the screen.

F12 to menu, open BIOS, no dice. Hangs with a blank screen.

F2 monster mash, no cake. It gets stuck on the blue bar as it's testing memory.

All i want is to enable Wake-on-LAN, but  on this box... the BIOS is telling my to go touch grass.

Anyone experience this one before?

Only a wild guess here.  If you are using RAID controller in UEFI boot mode, there could be a message from storage controller that halted the boot process.  But the dialogue from RAID controller is not compatible with UEFI, hence you could not see it.  Blindly hit F1 or Enter may allow POST to proceed to BIOS SETUP or using workaround below.

Temporarily remove boot drive or RAID controller to get no bootable device error message with F2 to enter SETUP.

Or, reset CMOS to get TIME and DATE error message with F1 to continue and F2 to enter SETUP.

Disregard the comment and suggestion if they are not applicable to your system.

Has your system always been this way with the RTX 5000 installed?  If not, what changed the behavior?

@bradthetechnut It wasn't always this way, but I'm not sure when this changed, this computer lives in my basement, and it's mostly been used for remote access and renders. So unfortunately, I don't have an answer to this.

@Chino de Oro I tried all of these, the RAID controller was throwing a message about a missing boot device, however, I would expect that given there are no drives in the bays, I've been booting from a PCIe SSD. It recommends a reconfiguration. I got this message by switching to BIOS boot in the F12 boot menu.

I tried the battery, and going to BIOS, this always results in a solid underscore cursor in the top left of the screen.

Not disregarding your comment, these steps felt helpful :)

Have you try temporarily remove the RAID controller method to access BIOS settings option.  With multi boot options usages, I suggest to enable Legacy Option ROMs in BIOS settings.

@Chino de Oro I'll look into it, I don't have time to test it tonight, but I'll find the raid controller and pull it, then report back. haha. Thanks!

@Chino de Oro I've tested removal of the raid controller, and everything else suggested, this system refuses to open BIOS. I think I'll buy a new computer.

When a system could not boot due to missing boot drive, the error message should automatically provided F keys functions to access BIOS setup.  The issue could be with the display connection types.  If you have other means to test, try DisplayPort connection to non-4K monitors.  Avoid the use of USB-C and signals converter adapter.  Similar EDID issue was resolved by temporarily swapping out the graphics card for an old faithful Kepler Quadro card.
