Precision 3660 Tower Hard Drive specs
I am looking at a Precision 3660 Tower to use as a small home server. I want to add three SATA drives in addition to the single SDD. However, looking at the specs am I correct that there are just two bays for SATA drives and the max capacity of the SATA drives supported by the 3660 is 4TB? I was looking to add 16TB drives. How easy/difficult is it for me to add three 16TB SATA drives to an "out of the box" 3660 Tower? Thanks!

The Precision 3660 should support up to three 3.5" hard drives and the max capacity is the current capacity available. It's easy to add three 16TB to your system. Two internal bays and one at the front flex bay.

Awesome - thanks! I had a feeling I was good to go but couldn't 100% nail down that info as fact. I appreciate the quick reply!

Any idea why Dell's data sheet for this machine says that HDD capacity is limited to 8TB? Look at the table at the top of page 18 here: Precision 3660 Tower Setup and Specifications (dell.com)

From what I gathered, the maximum HDD capacity was the highest capacity drives which were tested and validated at the time the spec-sheet was written. Often times, Dell does not use the highest capacity in the market for testing, only the capacity Dell used in factory and the HDD sold as customer kit.
Higher capacity SATA drives use the same SATA protocol connection will always work. Depending on the timeline it was asked, the capacity limit is the maximum capacity available in the market for the time being.
