Precision 3260 / 3460 RAM speed 5600 being recognised as 4800

Hi

I've tried to install some faster RAM in my unit, upgrading to two 16GB running at 5600Mbps. Dell sells a configuration on their site with faster RAM but the modules I've installed do not run at that speed, they are coming up as 4800 in the BIOS.

I've upgraded to the latest BIOS 2.9.1 but still no joy.

They are SK hynix modules HMCG78AGBSA092N BA

Anyone tried faster RAM on the Precision 3260 or 3460

Anyone got any ideas?

And according to the support pages here, RAM will run at 4800.

Re:  Anyone got any ideas?

Because you did not provide any information about your hardware device, am going to throw a guess here.

System with 13th generation processors will support memory speed of 5600 for non-ECC and lower for ECC.

System with 12th generation processors will support memory speed of 4800 for non-ECC and lower for ECC.

@JOcean thanks, but I believe the support doc is wrong as they sell configurations with the faster ram

@Chino de Oro apologies, I overlooked this part, yes my machine is running a 12th gen CPU (12500), but seems odd as both 12th gen CPUs support faster RAM, along with the W680 chipset that these run?

You're probably right as that's the only difference here, but would be great for someone to validate.

@fudged As @Chino de Oro pointed out it will run at 4800 and just because the systems are sold with faster RAM does not mean it will run at a faster speed. Dell has been selling systems for years with faster RAM but systems will clock the RAM down in speed.
