Intel Xeon Platinum p-8124 on T7820?

Hello all,

I stumbled upon a pair of Intel Xeon Platinum 8124 CPUs, and tried to install them on my T7820 (now mounting a pair of Silver 4110) with no success.

Service Tag <private info removed>

BIOS version 2.42.0

MB version - humbly, don't know how to identify it!

The system keeps repeating the POST phase, with only amber light blinking at regular intervals.

I have 4x8GB of RAM installed with a frequency of 2666Mhz - which is the same required by both series of CPUs.

Is there anything I can or could do, or the Xeons 8124 is just not compatible with the T7820?

Thanks!

Try replacing or testing the size 2032 motherboard battery.  Low/bad batteries affect BIOS and cause odd problems.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS that's for the 7820.

Two places to check for compatible CPU's:  1. Dell Precision 7820 Tower Owner's Manual Technologies List  2. Userbenchmark Precision 7820

I don't think that the 8124 is supported, being a custom model only for Amazon AWS

@mazzinia_ that’s really unfortunate. I just bought 2 Xeon platinums 8124M. And they don’t even work in the system. Now I have to return them and find a secondary option for even more money than I wanted to spend.

@RP-833 maybe look for 6140 , they are particularly affordable at the moment
