install m.2 ssd in Dell Precision 3620 and install windows 11

the hd failed in a Dell P3620. We decided to replace it with an M.2 SSD.  My plan was then to install Windows from a USB..

I removed teh failed standard SSD and the m.2 ssd installed with no problem. It is recognized in the bios under drives.

The problem I have now is when I boot with the Win 11 usb I get no bootable device found.

I tried to change the boot order in the bios but all I see is this.. no boot order.

am I missing a setting?

thank you,

Mike P

You don't need to change boot order.  With the USB installer plugs in, tapping F12 at boot to see one time boot menu.  You will see the USB under UEFI boot group.  Select it and Windows installation will start.

Something to remember:

For Windows 11 to install properly on this unsupported machine, set UEFI boot mode, enable Secure Boot and TPM in BIOS settings.

For Windows 11 to activate properly, installing the same edition the machine was digitally licensed with.

thank you for your reply.

I had tried that..  all I saw was this

bios set up just takes me to the bios menu

bios flash update no

diagnostics  no

Change boot mode settings only give the 2 options

Legacy boot mode, secure boot OFF

uefi boot mode, secure boot OFF.

that's it.

The pc came with Win 10 and is 7 yrs old so I think I'll just update to 10. If I ever figure out how..

Your USB drive was not prepared correctly.  Go to this link  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10, click on Download Now to your working PC.  Double click to run and it will create a Windows 10 installer.  You need a USB of 8 GB or larger (up to 32 GB).

Use the newly create installer for installation.
