How to Prepare New Replacement Hard Drive for Fresh Install

This is a Dell Precision T1700 purchased in 2015

I need to replace the hard drive in my computer. I'd like to know how to prepare the new hard drive with the same partitioning and Dell utilities that was installed on the original disk drive.

The original installation disk has Windows 8.1 and the computer has been updated to Windows 10. I'd like to install a clean Windows 10 in the beginning.

What I need is a step by step concerning the order of preparation and software location.

I hope this is clear, I will gratefully answer any question.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Hello,

first download a copy of windows 10 from microsoft
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Full instructions are provided at that link (using the tool to create installation media)

Then , all your drivers and current dell applications are
https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/precision-t1700-workstation/drivers
here, so based on which ones you have installed ( of dell applications ) , you can download them from there

If under Download type , you select drivers, you get a list of the drivers needed.
You will likely need :
Intel 8 Series Chipset Device Software Driver
Realtek HD Audio Driver
Intel Management Engine Components Installer

rest depends on your configuration and the current win10 could be covering them itself

Thanks for your replay...

I've ordered my drive an expect in approximately 1 week. Hopefully the computer will last that long.

Is there any special partitioning for the drive prior to the installation of Windows 10?

I also have a question, is it possible to clone the OS disk to another new SSD for backup before the warranty expires? Thanks.

No, you get offered to decide where to install and how to partition, if you don't want to pick the standard preset, during the initial phase of the installation.

yes , is possible. Depending on the brand of the ssd, there may be a simple program offered by them... like Samsung

https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/tools/

Samsung Data Migration Software for Consumer SSD <<

These programs clone and arrange things for usage on an ssd ( doing a standard cloning with the wrong program would not perform the modifications needed for ssd usage and shorten the ssd lifespan due to heavier and useless disk access later on )
