How to make a USB 3.1 PCI card bootable ? Precision T-5500

Question

Hi,

If I plug a bootable USB key on my USB port of my USB 3.1 PCI card, it wont boot ! And yes, I check the boot order on startup and the USB drive is NOT listed !!!

You won't be able to boot from USB adapter connected to a PCIe slot because the USB port is not recognized until the OS is loaded.

There probably is no way -- why not just use the onboard USB port that does support boot?

@ejn63​ Because the USB card is 3.1 and the pc USB ports are 3.0. A step up in bandwidth that I would like to take advantage of...

Well, for what it's meant to be used for, it's not that much faster. At least get that working first.

As it Posts you bring-up the One-Time-Boot-Menu. If the device is not listed there, it's likely not bootable. Remember, this is UEFI-class.

What's on the flash drive?  Is it an OS (what OS?) to load onto an HDD/SSD?  Or is the OS on the flash drive meant to run the PC?

Tesla1856, I tested my key with CrystalDisk plugged in both USB ports and the read/write speed is significantly higher on the USB PCI card.

bradthetechnut, The flash drive is a Ventoy boot key with lots of isos in it...

@iBenny​ you could try Plop Boot Manager, PlopKexec Boot Manager and test if PlopKexec or Plop Boot Manager 6PBM6 recognize and handle your pci-e card ( so boot minimal one of these 2 boot managers from the integrated usb, and see if they can handle giving control of the pci-e addon card )
