How do I use 2 x 2.5in SATA drives in a single Precision 5820 front HDD bay?
Hi folks, I'm curious if the above is possible. Obviously I wouldn't be able to use the stock SATA backplane, but I think I'd be able to use the onboard SATA ports for data and a SATA power splitter cable to power the additional drive in the bay. What I'm not sure of is how to secure the whatever 5.25in to 2x2.5in adapter I find to the chassis itself to keep it from sliding around without the stock backplane to stop it. Any ideas?

@redxps630 That's the ODD bay, not the HDD bay. Thanks though!

There are plenty of brackets/adapters to mount two 2.5" drives into one 3.5" drive bay. But, you can't install them into the flexbay without modifying or removing the backplane. Although they will fit, you can't connect SATA cables and power cables. Depending on adapter type, the connecting ports do not align with your workstation existing SATA backplane. See an example below.
You can, however, converting your 5.25" optical drive bay into a hot swap dock with SATA backplane for dual 2.5" SSD/HDD bay + one 3.5" HDD bay. Or, most prefer, a 4-bay of 2.5" SSD/HDD. Or, maximize storage option, 6-bay of 2.5" SSD/HDD, to take advantage of all 6 unused SATA ports on your workstations.
You will also need very long cables with marking to connect the ports from bottom of the chassis to drive bay on the top of chassis. Example of cables to use.
